Spey Nation II

June 20, 2009, Salmon River, New York

The CF Burkheimer team heads east this June to attend the second annual Spey Nation event, in Altmar, New York. Held at Pineville Bridge on the beautiful Salmon River, it promises to be an informative and enjoyable day. CF Burkheimer Fly Rods will have a big lineup of two-handers to try, including some of our newest models, like the 7127-4, 7134-4, 9135-4, and a prototype 5 piece spey that we’ve recently completed and declassified.

There will be a number of casting demonstrations and group classes available throughout the day. CF Burkheimer Pro Staffers Whitney Gould and Nate Koenigsknecht will be holding a class during the event and there are still spots available for anyone interested in signing up. The three hour class will be geared towards newcomers to the world of spey, with an emphasis on developing solid technique while learning an assortment of effective fishing casts. The single spey, snap-t/circle spey, double spey, and perry poke will be covered, and participants will leave the course with the knowledge to fish effectively in a variety of situations. There is room for eight people in the class, with four spots still open as of this post. The cost is 125 dollars per person. Contact Whitney Gould at whgould85@hotmail.com or Nate Koenigsknecht at natek@cfbflyrods.com to sign up for or inquire about the class. Any class participant will be given a 20% discount on the purchase of a CF Burkheimer rod.

The CF Burkheimer family is extremely excited about this event, and we’re looking forward to meeting and casting with the east coast spey contigent. We’ll see you there!

I took three rods in case I didn’t like the 9135-4 or broke a rod, but the other rods never got used as the 9135-4 was a dream. It handled the wind and heavy sink tips better than I expected and the most amazing thing I found was that while it had the beef to control the larger fish up to 21 lbs. the tip was sensitive enough to feel the slightest take and make even the small 2 lb. fish a lot of fun to fight. — Peter Laskier
